Farewell DogBoy’s, Time to Turn the Page by Jay Robison

staff jay robinson“All lives are stories,” said Matt Smith in his last episode as The Doctor on Doctor Who, “just make sure yours is a good one.” Over the last 8 and a half years, it has been my honor and privilege to have DogBoy’s as a part of my story, and it has been very good. But all stories have chapters, and all chapters must end. So it is with sadness mixed with anticipation that I announce my departure from DogBoy’s at the end of May to take on an exciting new position at Apple Computer. Today, May 22nd was officially my last day at DogBoy’s Dog Ranch.

It has been my joy and privilege over the better part of the last decade to get to know the entire DogBoy’s family, customers and staff. And I’ve been honored to be a small part of your lives, celebrating things like new children, grandchildren and puppies, and mourning the loss of old friends, both two and four-legged. You’ve let me know about exciting trips and events in your lives, and you’ve let me share parts of my life with you–from the birth of my children to my crazy dog bringing a live opossum into my living room. It was that more than anything else that made my position at the front desk more than just a job to me.

I will miss you all, but I will take the relationships and skills you have helped me learn and develop over the years into my new job as I help people get along better with their technology! I will never forget you, and I hope to stay in touch. You can continue to email me at jay@dogboys.com through the end of May.

Take care, and God bless!

–Jay

A little bit about Jay’s journey with DogBoy’s Dog Ranch…

Jay moved to Austin in 1995 to earn his master’s in screenwriting at The University of Texas. While he has yet to get his big break in Hollywood, Jay has sold several short stories to an online magazine, The Grantville Gazette, which publishes stories set in the world of Eric Flint’s alternate history novel, “1632.” His most recent story is titled “O For a Muse of Fire” and will appear in the upcoming Grantville Gazette #11.

69576 10152298981824653 1998026608 nIn 2001, Jay appeared on Jeopardy! and was a one-day champion, proving that he’s approximately 1/72nd as smart as Ken Jennings–which currently qualifies him to be the DogBoy’s Trivia King.

Jay joined the DogBoy’s family in August 2005 after being referred here for agility lessons. Graham, his Corgi, and Hoosier, his Husky mix, have loved coming to work with him each day. In January 2007 Jay and his wife Kristi’s pack were joined by son Mike, and they welcomed their daughter Zoe in October 2012.

Jay has been an invaluable member of the team for just short of a decade. The Office won’t be quite the same without his exuberant laugh, his trivia knowledge, his witty sense of humor, and his kind heart. He is leaving behind a legacy and many friends (both two and four-legged) –  who really have become more like family. We cannot thank him enough for the memories and all the years of loyal service.

We will miss you Jay and wish you the very best in this next chapter of your life! Good luck!!!

Happy trails! I so enjoyed seeing you at the desk and appreciate your friendliness and sense of humor. And I will always remember how you took such good care of Bear and let him hang out under your desk. Hope wherever life takes you, it’s wonderful!

Jay, I’m happy for you! Although DogBoy’s couldn’t have found a better morning greeter, I always felt your talents went far beyond the requirements of that role. If your new job is to show folks how to use their technology, then I hope our paths cross again—either as your customer, in learning more about my Macs, or as a colleague, in making sure technology serves everyone as well as it can. And I’m forever indebted to you for helping me name Pinetop.

It goes without saying that Buddy and Daisy Mae will miss you, too.

If I don’t think about it Tuesday, be sure to get my contact information from the files. Let’s stay in touch!
