Ranch Dressing Contest

Over the last 11 years, DogBoy’s has created t-shirts, sweats, pullovers, bandanas and baseball hats for staff and friends. This year we wanted to do something new and we want your help. We are having our first ever design contest: The DogBoy’s Ranch Dressing and Tumble Wear Contest. What we need from you is a design featuring our logo and a short phrase or two (front and back?) that captures the essence of DogBoy’s. In the past, on our shirts, we have used “Play, Spot, Play”, “Follow Me to DogBoy’s”, “Who’s Your Dog”, “Don’t fence me in”, and “Don’t Litter, Spay and Neuter”. Our hats have our logo colored like the Texas flag. This has been a favorite and has been recognized from Amsterdam to Vancouver. Why you? Frankly, 2500 heads are better than 2, and we all know DogBoy’s clients are the smartest and most creative people in the state, nay the world.

How it works: Submit your ideas in person, fax, e-mail, letter or interpretive dance to DogBoy’s no later than March 15. The judges will be the staff of DogBoy’s and you! We will be picking the favorites and then let y’all vote on a winner in our next Poop Sheet. Ah, the winner. Besides getting to see your idea in print and in cool (or warm) colors you will also get your pick of items from our new line and a $50 gift card for DogBoy’s. How cool is that? So get on it, would ya? And good luck!

Flea-Free Stuff

It is almost time to start flea prevention. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A few drops of Frontline Plus, Advantage or Advantix now is so much better than spraying the yard, dipping the dog, and fogging the house later. Besides, we won’t let you come here if you don’t. (grin)

Oh, Baby!

Babies are abound and bouncing in the DogBoy’s extended families. So we thought a training tip for your dog that would help all was a good idea. Get a bag of morsels and put them on or near the changing table. Every time you change a bundle of joy from your bundle of joy have your dog watch and then give them a treat when you are done. This teaches your dog to change diapers. You wish! Actually, it teaches them to alert on that dis-stink odor. So your dog will let you know there is a “change” to be made so they can get a treat.

Paige One news: Woman Shoots Dog at Ranch
Written by DogBoy

I take pretty good pictures. I married into a professional photographer family. I know a good picture when I see it. We all see pictures as “oh!” or “oh wow!” Recently, Paige Morrison has been shooting pictures of dogs while they stay and play at the ranch. Paige has a gift. Her pictures are worth 1,001 words. She captures the mind, body, and most importantly, the spirit of the dogs. Whether it is the energy of a puppy on the move or the quiet dignity an aged soul with many bones under the porch. To me, pictures are a time machine. They take you back to “that” moment when . . .So if you ever want a picture of your dog that will always take you back, we know a woman who shoots dogs. Please contact us if you’d like to have your dog shot…with a camera!

Want Top Quality Dog Food Without the Hassle?

You know who you are…we see you in the grocery store. Secretly, you know your dog deserves a better quality food, but it’s just a hassle to make an extra trip to a specialty pet food store. You’ve got kids. You’ve got a job. You’ve got stuff to do! If you’d really like to feed your dog something that will extend his life and improve her behavior, we’d like to help. For the same price as our puppy delivery fee ($1/mile roundtrip), we’ll bring food too! Of course, if we’re already picking up or bringing you your dog, then the delivery fee for the food is FREE!!!

More Food Info:
You’ve probably already heard “the food speech” at DogBoy’s. We’re strong believers that what you feed your dogs can have a strong impact on your pup’s health AND behavior. Want to know what foods we like the best? Our diet sheet talks all about our dog food philosophy and lists all our favorite foods and places to buy. Specialty pet stores in town like Bark ‘n Purr, Just for Pets, and Rivers & Reefs sell every brand we recommend. Tomlinson’s sells all but one, and has multiple locations. We are happy to assist you in finding the food that is right for your pet.

Holidays and Waiting Lists

Well, it’s official – we’re full for Christmas 2007. It’s not even Valentine’s Day yet and there are almost 100 dogs making plans to whoop it up at DogBoy’s in December.

So what does this mean for the rest of us? Well, we have to put our name on a waiting list. And how does that waiting list work? Is it first-come-first-serve? Or is there another method behind the madness?

When we reach our boarding capacity, we start a waiting list. That list is not first-come-first-serve for a few reasons:

1. Different people want different dates.
2. Some dogs don’t get along with other dogs.
3. Some dogs have very special needs.

So, when a person cancels their reservation, all of the above is taken into consideration when filling that now vacant run. To further complicate things, we also have a limit of how many red-card dogs we can take during our busiest times. So if a dog on the waiting list is a red-card dog, another red-card dog has to cancel before we can get him/her off the waiting list. (Click here to learn about our green- & red-card system)

So now we have two waiting lists – one for red-card dogs and one for green-card dogs. When a red-card dog cancels, we will call someone on the red-card waiting list. When a green-card dog cancels, someone on the green-card waiting list will be called. But, remember, dates have to match and special needs are taken into consideration. And we mean special needs not in the way of diet or medication, but more in the way of separation anxiety or fear of thunderstorms.

And it’s not hopeless to put your name on the waiting list. Every year we call probably 75% of the people on the Christmas and Thanksgiving waiting lists as plans change for everyone involved. Other waiting lists aren’t as lengthy and we usually get 90%-100% of those people in. All in all we don’t like to tell anybody we can’t take care of his/her dog(s) and we try to get everyone in without sacrificing our dogs’ and our employees’ safety. We know this time is hectic for you, and we really appreciate your patience and understanding during times we’re at capacity.
