When the Cat’s Away

This is my new computer. Well, fairly new. I bought it last October. When I left the house Saturday to take the kids and their friends out to lunch, When the Cats AwayI assumed (yep, I said it) that everything would be okay. I have four dogs who I love very much. One drags cereal boxes out the doggy door to munch on outside. One escapes from the back yard about 5 times a day to run amuck around the property. One eats butter off the counter, and one, well he just lays around and sleeps a lot. When something happens in the house, I’m never sure which one is the guilty
party.

This particular Saturday, I came home to find my laptop in disarray. The monitor was lying flat against the desk, all the way open like it was flashing me or something. Keys were popped off the laptop keyboard - some next to the computer, and some just plain missing. What the heck happened?!

I know not to leave food on the table. I know not to lock the doggy door with the dogs inside the house. I even know that trash left in the laundry room will surely be ripped into if given the opportunity. But now I have to remember to shut my laptop each time I leave too? This is getting ridiculous!

Lucky for me, I bought Dell’s complete accident protection plan (highly recommended), so my “incident” was completely covered. They shipped me a new keyboard overnight, and I installed it myself today with a little help from tech support. Yay! I’m back up and running. Word to the wise: Leave those laptops closed when they’re not in use!

DogBoy Makes a House Call

DogBoy Makes a House CallThis is our sweet Molly.

Molly is recovering from a scary few months.

While boarding with us at Christmas, we noticed significant blood in her urine and rushed her to the vet. A raging UTI was suspected, but when Molly’s mom and dad got her home, they also noticed some severe bruising on her belly.

A trip to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital revealed that Molly had a rare condition called Thrombocytopenia. Her platelet count was drastically low and her life was in danger. As the days and hours passed, Molly’s fragile condition kept her in a state on the edge of life and death.

Steroids seemed to help her platelet count, but within a month of treatment, they induced Diabetes, and her weight had dropped significantly. Poor girl! Allison & Charlie (Mom & Dad) spent hours a day testing her blood, and treating her Diabetes, and with each day she continued to get stronger.

We got an invite to visit her at home in Bastrop and we jumped at the chance to say hello and give her some love. Thinner than normal and definitely less energy than we’re used to seeing, Molly still greeted us with a bark and lots of tail wagging. We all sat on the floor and tossed the ball to her, giving her time to lounge in between rolling the ball back and forth. Her spirits are good, her symptoms are improving, and it looks like Molly will be getting a second chance at life. We couldn’t be happier to hear the news and see her in person.

Allison has been sending the staff and her friends and family regular email updates, which we have coined “Molly Mail.” We look forward to more good news and hope to see her out at DogBoy’s again when she’s stronger. Love you, Molly girl!
