Should My Dog Drink Filtered Water?

Should my dog drink filtered water? In your day to day life you are constantly drinking beverages, the healthiest and most beneficial to your body is of course H20: WATER!  Believe it or not, your dog needs to drink clean water too.  Our pets' illnesses are increasing, and if there is a way to minimize those illnesses with clean drinking water, it only makes sense that should do what we can to give our dogs clean water wherever and whenever we can.

We are always learning more and more about chemical contaminants and pollutants in our drinking water, but there are plenty of solutions out there to clean these unwanted pollutants from our water supply. One option is to invest in a water filter system for your home.  Some of the popular affordably priced filters like Brita or Pur can be found at most grocery stores, and places like Bed Bath and Beyond. Beyond the big box stores, you can find even better filters with amazing water quality online.  One of the most well-known popular brands being Berkey Filters. Finally, for those pesky toilet drinkers, you could go all out and purchase a reverse osmosis water system or whole house filter (or you could just keep your toilet lids down!).  Tap water can be harmful and hazardous to you and your household, including your pets. By using a water filter you can reverse many negative body conditions, as well as avoid future health problems. Its important for you to drink PH balanced, clean water to be healthy. The same rule applies to your pets.

A big part of having a healthy pet is taking care of their diet and nutritional needs.  Water is essential for your dog to stay hydrated and for all important bodily functions. You should aim to keep your pets water bowl filled with clean, fresh water daily. This is especially important for those hot Texas summers! Feeding your pets wet food also provides more moisture to their diet, and can actually decrease the amount of water your pet will drink.

Its important to remember that contaminated waters full of chemicals and pollutants can cause extreme health conditions in both humans and pets. You want to provide the best for your pets, so take the time to give your pets clean filtered water daily. It will benefit their immune system and improve their overall health and demeanor.

DogBoy's Kennel Tech, Kirsty Campone owns a Berkey water filter system in her home.  Kirsty fills her dog's bowl directly from her Berkey.  Says Kirsty, "I cant control what they drink all the time, but at least at home (as long as they dont drink from the toilet) I can provide them with the best water quality that I myself drink."

If you'd like to talk with us more about your dog's nutritional needs, we're here for you and happy to help.  Working with you to care for your pup is an honor and a privelege.

And consider that bucket in the yard filled through the hose that probably leaches bad particles.
