SNIP Fest 2005 Scheduled for October 1st!

That’s right, y’all.  We’re doing it again, and this time hoping for sunny weather!

Join us for the second annual SNIP Fest at DogBoy’s on Saturday, October 1st from 2 – 6 pm.  We’ll be there to celebrate the success of SNIP, honor our SNIP members, say thank you to all of you great customers and also to celebrate our 70th Anniversary (in dog years)!  We’re even having a birthday cake!

There will be lots of activities for the kids (both human and canine) like a moonwalk and puppy petting zoo, live music, great food and drink from some of Austin’s locally owned restaurants, massage, custom T-shirt printing, and booths from all our pet-related and just plain ‘ol pet loving SNIP member businesses and charities.

Tickets will be $5 per person at the door, and dogs and kids under 12 are free!

Call for Volunteers!
If you would like to be a customer volunteer for the big event, you would gain an all-access pass to the event and get a cool T-shirt to boot!  Interested?  Just contact Diane Mueller, our fabulous customer and Volunteer Coordinator. We are very happy to welcome her back to this position again this year!

Call for Sponsors!
If your company is interested in being a corporate sponsor for this event, we would love your help!  Please contact Beverly Taylor at DogBoy’s and she’ll send you a letter detailing our sponsorship levels and the benefits that go along with being a supporter of SNIP Fest!

Call for Vendors!
Do you have a business you’d like to promote at SNIP Fest?  We are looking for any business that cares about pets to be a part of our festival.  Your business does not necessarily have to be pet related, but if you join SNIP (members join FREE), then your booth fee is reduced.  We are also on the lookout for food vendors as well.  If you would like our vendor packet, please contact Gloria Smejkal, our Vendor Liaison. Click here for more information about sponsoring or hosting a booth.

DogBoy's Summer Movie Night on the Ranch!

Want to do something fun with your dog at night?  Well, pack a picnic dinner and some drinks and head on over to DogBoy’s for our Summer Movie Night.  The movie shown will be Fluke, a story about a man reincarnated into a dog.  It’s a really sweet film that has been a favorite of DogBoy’s for years.  This fun and FREE event will be held Saturday, July 30th, and the movie will begin at 9 pm.  Bring some lawn chairs, snacks & drinks, and of course your dog on a leash (friendly dogs only, please), and get ready to have a good time!  Please RSVP to this event by contacting DogGirl, as space is limited.  If the weather is rainy, we will reschedule this event for Friday, August 5th.

Pet Port-A-Bowls Available at DogBoy's!

A new product currently available at the ranch is a portable water dish for easy drinking while you’re at the park or on a long walk.  These bowls are compact, lightweight, and machine washable (line dry).  They even Velcro around your dog’s collar so you don’t have to carry them!

Similar products sell for $10 or more.  These portable bowls are only $6!  And the proceeds benefit Immanuel Lutheran Day School’s 20th Anniversary Carnival on August 28th.

Pick one up the next time you’re in!

Sore Pads and Feet?

The most common injury we see here at DogBoy’s is sore or worn pads. Sore pads happen when friction from running, jumping and playing rub the outer layer of the pads down.  Any dog is susceptible to this condition but there are ways to help prevent this from happening to your dog.

  • Walk!  Getting Fido off the couch and walking regularly on rough surfaces will help toughen up those paws and reduce the risk of sore pads
  • Keep your dog at a healthy weight.  Being even slightly overweight can cause stress on your dog’s pads. Being overweight also increases the risk of muscular injury
  • Before your dog stays at DogBoy’s, you can prepare your dog’s feet by applying a protective cream such as Protecta-Pad.  These creams can help give your dog’s pads added elasticity and can prevent cracks that can lead to sore pads. Most of these creams can be purchased at pet supply stores such as Tomlinson’s Feed Store, Bark N Purr, and Gallery of Pets.
  • Keep your dog’s nails trimmed.  If you can hear them tapping on concrete, they are too long and can cause uneven pressure on the pads.

If your dog shows symptoms while at DogBoy’s, we will limit the dog’s activity and apply Pad Heal to the sore pads.  Pad Heal is a product that provides rapid healing with a protective barrier to keep the pads clean and tighten the pads.  Pad Heal can also be used at home as a conditioner prior to boarding to help prevent wear on the pads, and is available at the stores mentioned above.

While at DogBoy’s, most dogs are so stimulated by their surroundings that they seem to ignore their symptoms and therefore don’t pace themselves.  Once the dog is picked up and goes home, he is not as stimulated by his surroundings and he realizes his soreness and pain.  Once at home some dogs have been known to walk tender-footed and even not want to get up.  If your dog is exhibiting these symptoms, applying Pad Heal twice a day will speed up the healing process.  If the symptoms last for more than 3-4 days then contact your vet for further instructions.

Feel free to contact us at anytime if you have any questions or concerns and we will be happy to help.
