Dali & Kobi
In 1999, Dana & Eric Cooper moved into their first home. Most homes come
with their normal problems from electricity to air conditioning, but theirs
had a more unique problem; an 8 month old Queensland Heeler named "Spot."
After changing her name to "Dali" they realized she would need more
than that to make her life complete. Dali was fear aggressive; the result of
having her leg broken by children when she was only four months old and being
kept in crates for months after that. After a few harrowing trips to the vet
and the constant inability to have people in their home, they decided to seek
professional help. Dr. Sunbury had cards for Dogboy's Positive Power Kennels
at his front desk. He gave one to the Coopers and explained that there were
people there that could help. Under the care of Dogboy's and then behaviorist Lee Mannix, Dali is a different dog today than
her first trip to Dogboy's. She has even been known to let Dogboy's staff actually
pet her which is a tremendous step for Dali, now four years old.
Kobi was adopted by the Coopers from the Austin Humane Society in 2001 simply
"because he looked like Dali" and they couldn't bear to leave him
there. This one year old Queensland Heeler/Border Collie Mix had problems of
his own though sufferring from PDA, or in simpler terms, Kobi had a hole in
his heart measuring 6 cm. Dogboy's staff was wonderful with Kobi's condition,
restricting his play and watching over him whenever in their care. After a successful
surgery at Texas A&M; that year, Kobi no longer had any troubles and is allowed
to play with all the ferver of his "sister". The Coopers are very
grateful for the three years Kobi has been alive as doctors said, without surgery,
he had less than a year to live. Dali and Kobi (yes, he has his own package
of behaviors!) continue to make great progress that might not be possible were
it not for Dogboy's and the great attention and care they give all their boarders!
