S.N.I.P. FAQs
What is SNIP?
SNIP stands for Spay Neuter Incentive Program. Founded by DogBoy's Dog Ranch in 2004, SNIP is a coalition of business owners that encourages spaying and neutering by providing incentives to customers and businesses. SNIP rewards pet owners who take the responsibility to spay or neuter their pets, and recognizes the businesses that encourage them.
What is DogBoy's Dog Ranch?
DogBoy's Dog Ranch is a unique boarding kennel, daycare and training facility for spayed and neutered dogs, located on 15 acres in Pflugerville. Founded by Bart and Courtney Emken in 1995, DogBoy's was Central Texas' first all spayed and neutered kennel.
Who is eligible to join SNIP?
Any pet-loving business can join SNIP, simply by providing an incentive to customers who show proof that they have a spayed or neutered pet. For the maximum progress toward the goal of encouraging spaying and neutering, SNIP’s recruitment efforts originally focused on pet-related businesses. In 2005, SNIP broadened its focus to include landlords and property managers. This new focus on the apartment industry is because of the large number of pet owners who live in apartment communities in Central Texas. By providing incentives to tenants who have spayed and neutered pets, property managers can differentiate themselves, provide a community service, and ensure that pets on their properties cause less damage.
What kind of incentives should businesses give to their clients?
The type of incentive is the choice of the business owner--discounts, free products, or extra services are among the most common incentives. Click here to see what our current members are offering, or here for another list of incentive ideas to get you started. Your incentive may apply one time or every time a customer visits. You may also offer more than one incentive; it's entirely up to you.
What if my business only accepts spayed and neutered animals already?
In this case, the incentive is simply that only spayed and neutered pets can "come and play" or otherwise partake in the services your business offers. You may offer additional incentives if you like, but it's not a requirement.
How do customers get SNIP cards?
Bring your vet records to any SNIP member business to take advantage of the incentive they offer. At participating businesses, show your vet records and get an official SNIP card. You can also obtain a SNIP card at DogBoy’s Dog Ranch. What role do non-profit organizations play in SNIP?
Non-profit organizations are considered honorary members of SNIP. Nonprofits do much of the “heavy lifting” of the spay-neuter movement--we want to recognize them, and also ask them to help support SNIP by promoting the coalition to their partners, colleagues and clients. SNIP supports their efforts by supplying adoption packets with a list of our members and their incentives as well as SNIP customer cards to all new adoptees. What does it cost to be a member of SNIP?
Membership in SNIP is free! DogBoy's Dog Ranch is underwriting SNIP-related expenses as a way to achieve its mission of making the world a better place for all dogs and their owners, everywhere. To help defray expenses, DogBoy’s is seeking sponsors for SNIP Fest 2005 (click here for more information on becoming a sponsor).
Are you accepting contributions for SNIP?
YES! As of January 1, 2005. Please mail your check written out to SNIP. Our address is 2615 Crystal Bend Drive, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
How will my business benefit from joining SNIP?
Members will be recognized on the SNIP website with contact information, a list of incentives and a link to the website. (We also encourage you to link your website back to SNIP). Members receive a window sticker to let customers know you are a member, and you will be given SNIP customer cards to hand out to all customers who show proof of having a spayed or neutered pet. You and your clients will be invited to SNIP Fest every year, and you will also have the opportunity to sponsor the event).
