Our two kennels total 57 indoor/outdoor runs, and were designed and built by a "green" builder. That means they were constructed in an environmentally friendly way, using the earth's natural resources where possible. The four foot thick concrete slab helps retain the earth's temperature, and breezeways help to circulate airflow.
In the heat of the summer, the indoor portion of the runs is about 20 degrees
cooler than it is outside, so air conditioning is not necessary. We do have heating
for cold winter nights, though. The runs are 3-5 feet wide and 17 feet long (5'
indoor/12' outdoor). Our large runs comfortably fit three big dogs and we have
boarded the Malamutes to prove it!
Inside the kennel, we play music day and night. During inclement weather we turn the music up and the lights on so those pups afraid of thunderstorms will have a little diversion from the loud thunder and flashes of lightning. With your permission, we are also happy to administer Rescue Remedy, an all natural, herbal supplement to help ease the anxiety that can overcome a dog who is afraid of thunderstorms.
